IPX6 and IPX7 describe different tests
The IP Code describes enclosure protection. In the UL Solutions overview of protection categories, IPX6 concerns powerful water jets and IPX7 concerns temporary immersion. The “X” does not provide a dust-protection rating. These categories do not authorize unlimited soaking, wet charging or every possible use involving water.
Do not assume that a higher-looking number covers every lower-numbered water test. More importantly for a purchase, ask what the manufacturer permits for the finished device. Test categories and real-use instructions answer related but different questions.
